Common Blood Pressure Drugs Increase Skin Cancer Risk Seven-Fold!

A new research at the University of Southern Denmark has discovered that some of the most commonly prescribed drugs for hypertension (high blood pressure) increase the risk of skin cancer seven times, especially in patients who have been taking the drugs for a long time. All those drugs contain a dangerous chemical called hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic and changes the skin, making it much more sensitive to the UV rays.

This discovery was confirmed by Dr Armand Cognetta from Florida State University, who maintains that hundreds of his patients with skin cancers had high concentration of hydrochlorothiazide in their blood.

It is currently believed that many cases of squamous cell carcinoma have been the result of taking diuretic drugs that contain hydrochlorothiazide.
