HALLELUJAH DIET

Hallelujah Diet pyramid

There are many reasons to believe that one of the most healthy and most effective ways in coping with diseases and health conditions is the Hallelujah Diet which seems to be much more than just another vegan diet as it is based on a variety of unrefined plant foods enriched with plenty of vegetable cold-pressed juices, raw vegetables, barley grass and alfalfa powder, as well as best quality supplements such as omega 3, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, or iodine. By now millions of the intelligent and sensible followers of this diet around the world have restored their health while revealing no nutritional deficiencies. The Hallelujah Diet seems to be more effective than a regular vegan diet or any other popular nutritional approach because it is based mostly on the cold-pressed and living vegetable juices, raw vegetables, and other raw plant unprocessed foods including seeds, nuts, whole grains, legumes, and fruits, while cooked unrefined plant foods make only about 15% of this diet.

We all know that the most important for us to recover from our health problems and maintain good health is to get proper amount of vitamins and especially minerals. There are reasons to believe that even today it is not so difficult to provide our body with vitamins, as fresh fruits which are less dependent on the quality of soil and more on sun, still have a lot of these nutrients. Fresh fruits are regarded as the best source of vitamins and the second best source of all minerals, on condition they are naturally ripened.

Unfortunately, it is much harder for us to nourish our organism with sufficient amount of minerals because vegetables, which should be regarded as the richest source of minerals, usually grow on a poor quality and depleted soils. Thus, according to the Hallelujah diet, because our greatest need is not vitamins but rather minerals, we need to consume much more vegetables than fruits. That is why fruits constitute only about 15 percent of total Hallelujah diet. Another reason to eat less fruits is the fact that most fruits today are kind of hybrid and contain more sugar than they should. In addition, they are usually harvested green and therefore are deprived of their natural enzyme activity.

These are the key reasons why according to the Hallelujah diet vegetables should be our main type of food. The problem is, however, that according to the concept introduced by Dr. H. E. Kirschner, in order to get today proper amount of minerals (and vitamins) from vegetables we would have to consume them in too big amounts. For this reason he proposed drinking raw vegetable juices simply because they are high in essential minerals. Also Dr. Walker encourages to drink raw vegetable juices by stating that the harmful toxins present today in vegetables remain mostly in the pulp. By the way, it was after Dr. Walker became very ill (in his early 50s) that he totally changed his diet and became a raw vegetarian. As a result he not only recovered from all health problems, but he managed to live almost 120 years!

Another reason our diet should include more vegetable juices than raw vegetables is our insufficient ability to digest and break down the cellular structure of raw vegetables, and assimilate their nutrients. In addition, it is believed that we also use huge amounts of energy to digest raw vegetables, thus, by drinking raw juices we may omit this process and feel better by saving a lot of power. Fibre is very important in case of fruits because it greatly slows down digestion of sugar, but in case of vegetables it is much less important as they are significantly lower in sugar. That is why fruits should be consumed with the pulp. Apart from that, fibre itself contains no significant nutritional value and is only the carrier of the nutrients. Also because vegetable juice is deprived of fibre, the percentage of nutrients able to reach the cellular level raises from 30 to even 90 per cent! In addition, the nutrients from the juice reach our cells almost immediately after it is consumed. Nevertheless, because we still need fibre our diet should include some raw vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds and nuts. Seeds and nuts are important also because they are usually high in omega 3 fatty acid.

Vegetable juices provide our body with much higher amount of nutrients than raw vegetables. For example, in order to make a glass of carrot juice we have to use one pound of carrots. But, because during the process of digestion and assimilation of raw vegetables we are able to absorb much less nutrients than from a juice, it means that to get equal amount of nutrients which is found in this one glass of juice we would have to consume at least two or even three pounds of raw carrots! The problem is, though, that nobody is able to eat that amount at one meal, and even if we tried we would still lose 60 to 70 per cent of the nutrients during the digestive process. This example also shows that just one glass of vegetable juice contains the amount of nutrients which is found in all the raw vegetables people usually consume in a week and some even in a whole month!

However, in order to make a juice which would be fully beneficial to your health you can’t use a blender but a cold press and low speed juicers such as Hurom slow vertical juicers which make juice surprisingly quickly and without heating or oxidizing it, and destroying enzymes and vitamins. It is possible by keeping a really low RPM rate of around 70-80. But in spite of that, they can squeeze the ingredients until nothing is left apart from dry pulp. The secret of incredible health benefits of vegetable juices squeezed in slow juicers is that they allow to preserve enzymes alive for up to 48 hours. Apart from that, tests done in the Michelson Laboratories Inc. and the Korean Food Research Institute revealed that slow juicers are able to extract over 40% more Vitamin C, and over 60% more Vitamin A than traditional juicers.

Dr. Kirschner treated his patients, who often suffered from so called ‘incurable diseases’, with fresh vegetable juices for over 50 years with excellent results. As a result of drinking mostly vegetable juices many people recovered from obesity, various cancers, cardio vascular diseases, leukaemia, arthritis, eyesight problems, haemorrhoids, kidney disease, and many other diseases and health-related problems.

There are many places where vegetable juices are used to treat different disorders. One of them is the Gerson Hospital in Mexico where patients recover from terminal cancers as a result of being on plant-based diet and drinking eight glasses of carrot juice every day.

The secret of the great and sometimes even unbelievable effectiveness of this diet are fresh and raw organic vegetable juices. You can make juice from any fresh vegetables, but the ones which are recommended to use most often are carrots and green leafy vegetables as they contain a lot of chlorophyll. The chemical structure chlorophyll is very similar to the human blood component – haemoglobin. According to the Science Newsletter in over one thousand recorded cases chlorophyll has been effective in fighting various infections, chronic sinusitis, common colds and many other problems.

The most popular and recommended vegetables for juicing are the following: Carrot, Green leafy vegetables, Celery, Beet, Turnip, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Peppers (sweet), Lettuce, Parsley, Spinach, watercress, chard, beet greens, kale, etc. Dr. Kirschner also recommended adding some other ingredients to the vegetable juices such as Alfalfa, Dandelion leafs, Mint, Comfrey, and other herbs, dried Kelp powder (or Spirulina), etc.
If you don’t like the taste of vegetable juice and have to mix it with a fruit juice try to use apples. Normally vegetables shouldn’t be mixed with fruits at one meal as together they may cause some fermentations and small indigestion but apples are believed to be the only fruit which can be used with vegetables.

Dr. Kirschner, stated that even if we consume a lot of different types of vegetables we could still be suffering from malnutrition because we are not able to eat enough to provide sufficient amount of nutriments. With the juices, however, the pulp is eliminated and we are left with high concentration of life-giving nutrients. It is, of course, best to use only the organically grown fruits and vegetables (those free of pesticides and preserving chemicals) for your juices. It is also good to know that according to another specialist – Dr. Walker, the most of the environmental toxins such as pesticides, which can be found in vegetables, remain in the pulp, which gives another motivation for juicing.

George Malkmus describes the Hallelujah Diet as “an abundance of God’s natural foods, uncooked (raw), and unprocessed”. He also maintains that “the dense living nutrients found in raw foods and their juices are what meet and satisfy our cells’ nutritional needs, so that a person no longer needs to struggle with uncontrollable hunger. These live foods are also what produce abundant energy and vibrant health”.

The Hallelujah diet is based on the fact that our body is built of approximately 100 trillion cells, and all of them including those which make our bones, skin, hair and nails are living cells, as they keep growing. These 100 trillion living cells comprising our physical bodies are constantly dying and replacing themselves with new ones at approximately 300 million cells per minute. It means that actually in approximately twelve months all the old cells should be replaced with the new ones. However, the quality of the new cells, tissues, organs, and finally the whole organism, depends on the type of food we provide our body with. If it is mostly refined and junk food, high in fat, sugar, and white flour products, along with stimulants such as caffeine products, tea, alcoholic beverages, then also the quality of the cells which are the building blocks would be very poor. As a result also the DNA helix which is the most important part of every cell would be prone to different stressors, damages and mutations caused by free oxygen radicals, eventually leading to cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, obesity caused by leptin resistance, bone and skeletal system disorders, or many other health-related problems. But, when every day you decide to provide your body with unrefined, healthy, mostly uncooked, unprocessed, and still living plant foods and keep on doing it every day, then after one year the old and sick and damaged cells in your body will be replaced with new and healthier ones!

As a matter of fact, the raw and living plant diet comprising of fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts was originally given us by our Creator (Genesis 1:29) who knows best what our nutritional needs are. That was why during the period between creation and flood the average life span, according to the Bible records, was almost one thousand years! Only after the flood when people started to consume cooked plant foods and meat human body started quickly deteriorating as the old cells were constantly being replaced with the low-quality and continuously inferior building materials. Also animals in their natural environment consume only raw foods.

Today, however, for the previously mentioned reasons, the best possible fuel for our bodies is not fresh fruits nor raw vegetables any more but raw and living vegetable juices. Fruits, vegetables, seeds nuts, and even certain amount of cooked vegetables, legumes and grains are still important and must be included in our diet, but the first and most important source of essential nutrients should be the living cold pressed vegetable juices. When we keep on providing our bodies with this superior better-quality and high in nutrients building material then also the quality of our new cells will be much higher. And that is the reason why people who persistently and honestly follow the principles of Hallelujah diet recover from so called ‘incurable diseases’ including even autoimmune disorders, arthritis, backbone problems, cancers, morbid obesity, atherosclerosis, or diabetes. Many of them after a few years on this diet manage to improve their eyesight, and some don’t even need eyeglasses any more! The best example of this phenomenon can be the author of the book “The Hallelujah Diet” – George Malkmus who describes his experience in the following way:

“At the age of 28 my eyes started to fail me. I could not focus properly nor see things clearly. So I went to the eye doctor, who gave me an eye examination, and as a result of the eye examination gave me a prescription for corrective lenses. I couldn’t see properly because for 28 years I kept nourishing the living cells that made up my physical body, of which my eyes were a part, with dead food. Thus, as the old eye cells died and were replaced with new cells, the new cells did not have quality-building materials with which to build strong new cells. But after receiving these new glasses I continued to consume the same standard American dead-food diet that had caused my eyes to deteriorate in the first place. Thus, once again, as new weaker eye cells, which didn’t have quality-building materials, replaced the old eye cells, my eyes continued to deteriorate. When I went to the eye doctor a year after receiving those first corrective lenses, I had to have a strengthening of my eyeglasses. Between the ages of 28 when I first started wearing eye glasses, and age 42, when I adopted The Hallelujah Diet, I had to have my eyeglass prescription strengthened at least three times, as my eyes continued to deteriorate. At age 42, however, I changed my diet from the dead-food diet, to the (Genesis 1:29) Hallelujah Diet comprised primarily of living plant foods supplemented with raw vegetable juices which provide the most powerful cell-building material I am aware of. Now, with these superior building materials, the body has what it needs to build new, stronger, healthier, more vibrant cells, than the ones being replaced. Now, watch what happened! At the age of 43, after just one year of consuming a living-foods, with lots of raw vegetable juices, I went back to the eye doctor; and he had to weaken my eyeglass prescription because my eyesight had improved. Between the ages of 42 and 65, I had to have my eyeglass prescription reduced at least three times, and today, as I write this, I am in my 70s, and have not had need of eyeglasses since about the age of 65, for distance or for reading! But this experience has not been unique to myself. My wife Rhonda has been on The Hallelujah Diet since 1991, and though she still needs to wear glasses, she has had to have her eyeglass prescription weakened four times. Hundreds of others who also have adopted the Hallelujah Diet have reported similar improvement in their eyesight, and many have also been able to throw their eyeglasses away. But what is so exciting here, is that when we change our diet from the dead foods of this world, to the living foods God designed our physical bodies to be nourished with, what happened to my eyes, happens to the entire cell structure of the body! Because the body now has superior building materials with which to rebuild itself. Cell by cell, the body replaces old cells with new, stronger cells. How true are the words of the Bible where it tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:14), and it is very obvious that whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap (Gal. 6:7), and that God’s people, as well as even those who deny God, are being destroyed for the lack of knowledge” (Hos. 4:6)!”

In the same book you can find numerous and amazing testimonies of people who recovered from obesity, arthritis, cancers, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and many other conditions as a result of practicing this highly effective diet. The author himself states that in his opinion it is especially the raw vegetable juices which are the secret of such incredible effectiveness of the diet, and one of the key reasons that within only a period of six months or even less, over 90% of all physical and even emotional problems disappear!

One the followers of the diet – Annebritt, of Lake Lure, North Carolina, who struggled with her addiction to junk food and as a result she suffered from severe obesity, weighing over 250 pounds, wrote: “I had just ballooned up,” she confessed, “and when you get to be really obese like that, you can’t keep up with your life, but I couldn’t even walk. Then I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. As the weight packed on, I basically felt more and more pain, to the point where I had a very difficult time even wanting to get out of bed.” With this painful condition, Annebritt became depressed, and doctors put her on antidepressants. “I was rapidly watching my life become a laundry list of ailments and with it, I was developing a medication list too.” Annebritt tried comforting herself with sodas, coffee, and sugar. “I would go from one sugar high to the next and from one caffeine buzz to the next, just to keep going throughout the day. I knew I needed to make changes, but I wasn’t quite sure how.” So Annebritt turned to prayer. “God,” she prayed, “if You can, please just show me the steps; show me any way I can change this. I give You my life. I give You everything. Just take me—change me, please!” It was during this time that The Hallelujah Diet was presented to her. She decided to try it. “For a year’s time, I very strictly concentrated on eating raw foods. I also juiced and drank lots of purified water. That was it—foods that were minimally processed.” The results were spectacular! Within a year, Annebritt lost over 100 pounds! “I have energy now,” she says, “and I’m no longer in pain. The fibromyalgia, arthritis, dysfunctional gallbladder, and a thyroid that wasn’t working right—all of those problems are gone. They don’t claim me as a victim anymore. What I claim now is vibrant health and vibrant confidence. My oldest son has told me, ‘Mom! You’re back!’ That means everything to me…everything in the world.”

Another excellent example of the effectiveness of the Hallelujah Diet in fighting obesity was given by Stacy from Nashville, Tennessee, who as a young woman, was already diagnosed with hypothyroidism and hypoglycaemia. Here is her testimony: “I was chronically fatigued, and emotionally depressed sugar addict. I was also about 30 pounds overweight. Through my years of school, I was always so tired I just wanted to go back to bed. I would eat a half gallon of ice cream every night. And in the morning, I would basically wake up drunk off of sugar and hung over. On two different occasions, I went to gas stations and drove off with the pump still in my car. I guess my blood sugar had dropped. I would go down one floor, look in the leftover pizza boxes and get all the pizza I could out of there. Then I would go to the next trash can and get pizza out of the boxes there. I would continue like this, making my way down to the fifth, fourth, and third floors, then take the elevator back up to my room and stuff it all down. After that, I’d fall asleep and wake up the next morning feeling drunk. Everything in my family’s life had to do with being overweight; it was all about fat. Who got fat, who lost their fat, gained the fat back. I realized that if I could just take care of my body that I wouldn’t have to deal with being fat any more. I was so interested in hearing about the diet that I watched George Malkmus’ seminar three or four times. The more I watched it, the more my mind was renewed and the more I was convinced this was true. My husband and I started juicing and making salads. We got off of meat. We got off of caffeine. We got off of white sugar and we stopped eating out so much. Since beginning this way of life, I’ve lost 30 pounds, and over the last few years I’ve kept it off. I’ve been absolutely full of energy, working full-time as a dance teacher and ministering to women. I’m about to release a new CD of songs I’ve written and recorded, and I plan to go on the road spreading the news of what God has done for me! None of this would have been possible without The Hallelujah Diet. I’m extremely grateful.”

As I’ve already mentioned the Hallelujah Diet is 100% vegan and involves consuming only 15 percent cooked foods and 85 percent of raw foods. Vegetable juices are normally consumed for breakfast, cooked foods for dinner, whereas the raw foods as well as juices for the rest of the day. Raw foods include vegetables and vegetable juice, fresh fruits, sprouts, avocado, raw soaked seeds, soaked nuts and nut butters, soaked oats, flax seed oil, olive oil, and any other healthy unrefined plant foods. Cooked foods include legumes, whole grains, grain waffles, vegetables, almond milk, rice milk, Tofu (soy cheese), carob powder, honey, molasses, maple syrup, fruit juices, herbal teas, etc.

Prohibited foods and products are: stimulants (alcohol, coffee, tea, cola drinks, chocolate, etc.), meat products, fish, eggs, milk, and all other dairy products, white rice, roasted and salted nuts and seeds, any products containing refined sugar, white flours, artificial sweeteners, carbonated beverages, refined salt (unrefined sea or rock salt is allowed), animal fat, hydrogenated oils, margarine, etc.

If possible the followers of the diet are encouraged to choose organic plant foods. Vitamin B12 supplementation is also recommended. According to the modern knowledge there is no need to worry about the quality and quantity of protein on any vegan diet as long as the diet includes variety of unrefined plant products such as legumes, grains, seeds and nuts as when combined together they provide our body with all essential amino acids which are of even better quality than the animal ones.

Remember that switching to a strict plant-based diet and practicing other principles of healthy lifestyle work in a similar way as fasting does leading to detoxification of the body and thus producing some unpleasant symptoms such as headaches, nausea, rashes, pimples, diarrhoea or constipation, fatigue, etc. The healing process may also shortly increase pain or other symptoms which were felt in the diseased area of the body. Usually about 30 percent of people who follow the principles of this very effective diet experience these side effects. On Hallelujah diet your body will start to rebuild itself by replacing weak old cells with new and healthy ones. During this healing and rebuilding process the body has to get rid of all these old toxic accumulated debris. If you experience these side effects, which are usually mild, don’t give up as they always disappear after a week or so and you will begin to feel much better than ever before. In case the toxins are released too rapidly causing you to feel very bad consume more cooked meals (such as cooked grains, legumes, or potatoes) and less raw foods and vegetable juice for a week or so and the symptoms will disappear. After you feel better try to come back to the original plan slowly increasing the amount of cold pressed vegetable juice and raw plant foods.

One of the principles which might be regarded as controversial in this diet is a very low-calorie breakfast which includes only BarleyMax and fresh carrot juice. However, the proponents of the Hallelujah Diet argue that this type of breakfast allows their body to continue the cleansing and healing process for a longer time. Apart from that, the BarleyMax and fresh carrot juice are very high in energizing nutrients thus preventing from getting weak in spite of the low-calorie intake. The wise thing is also the suggestion according to which growing children are encouraged to have at least three meals a day including normal-calorie breakfast preceded with BarleyMax and freshly made carrot or carrot/apple juice.

With regards to Hallelujah Diet I also like the fact that this highly effective nutritional approach allows some freedom and flexibility suggesting that everyone should feel free to go ahead and experiment as long as the diet includes only unrefined healthy plant foods of which 85 per cent is raw and only 15 per cent cooked. Also adults who still prefer to have substantial breakfasts are encouraged to have their cooked food for breakfast and BarleyMax with fresh carrot juice in the evening. It means that in this case the evening meal should be entirely raw.

The main reason the Hallelujah Diet is often regarded as extreme is the fact that it contains only 15% of cooked foods and no animal products. Some warn against it suggesting that it eventually leads to malnutrition, especially vitamin B12 deficiency, and that it provides too few calories. These accusations, however, can’t be justified because this diet includes all healthy and unrefined plant foods including vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, whole grains, and legumes. And as I already mentioned, the health authorities and organizations agree that totally plant-based and unrefined diet which includes all listed above plant foods is safe and provides all essential nutrients necessary to maintain good health. As a matter of fact, since the Hallelujah Diet includes seeds and nuts its followers are often at risk to consume more calories than they actually need. They also provide their bodies with much more nutrients than any animal-based diet and I believe that due to the inclusion of the cold-pressed vegetable juices and barley grass powder the nutritional value of this diet is higher than any other known and popular nutritional approach. That is also why the effectiveness of this diet in treating various health-related problems exceeds any other diet or treatment. As far as the risk of vitamin B12 deficiency is concerned, though some experts such as Prof. Michael Donaldson claim that metabolic vitamin B12 deficiency can be sometimes detected in as little as 22 months on the Hallelujah diet (which is normal for any type of strict vegetarianism), it can’t be regarded as problematic as the followers of this diet are encouraged to use B12 supplements. In order to receive more practical information concerning this topic please read the section on vitamin B12 supplementation included in the chapter Additional Principles to Follow.

Of course you don’t have to follow all the principles of Hallelujah Diet in order to lose weight because any regular unrefined vegetarian diet which includes very small amounts of animal foods such as McDougall, Fuhrman, Ornish, or strictly vegetarian diets such as Esselstyn or Bernard diet, would be more than enough in this case. I recommend the Hallelujah Diet to all those whose expectations are higher, who want to feel even better, who aim at recovering from so called incurable or terminal diseases, and desire to achieve more than just a proper body weight. But if you want to follow the exact principles and recipes recommended for this diet be wise, include variety of plant foods, watch how your body reacts, and you must buy the book “Hallelujah Diet” or receive more details from the  WEBSITE >

In case you decide to not follow all the rules of this excellent and most effective diet, I would strongly suggest that you should have at least a glass of fresh cold-pressed vegetable juice mixed with 1 or 2 teaspoons of spirulina, chlorella or barley grass powder 15 to 30 minutes before each meal and eat much more fresh and raw vegetables daily as it should significantly increase the nutrients intake and improve your physical and emotional well-being.

Finally, please keep in mind that even the best diet won’t work miracles without regular physical activity.
