Written by Slawomir (“Swavak”) Gromadzki, MPH

Eucalyptus Oil (Eucalyptus globulus) is regarded as powerful and stimulating winter oil with an unmistakeable aroma. It has been widely used in various cough and cold remedies. Eucalyptus oil works as an expectorant and helps remove toxins and harmful microorganisms from the body. One of the most effective ways to use Eucalyptus oil for colds is to drop five to ten drops into diffuser or inhalator place a towel over the head and inhale deeply for five to fifteen minutes two to three times a day. A study from NYU Medical School demonstrated that using Eucalyptus oil can be very helpful for those who suffer from sinusitis. Participants experienced quick improvement after using Eucalyptus oil for sinus issues and allergies. Few drops of Eucalyptus oil mixed with half glass of herbal teas such as sage or chamomile tea is also recommended for frequent gargling to clear the throat.

Five to ten drops of Eucalyptus oil with some raw coconut or cold-pressed olive oil can strengthen the hair and moisturise it. The same mixture is especially great to ward off itchy scalp and dandruff. Eucalyptus oil is also commonly used for lice.

Mixed with base oils it makes an excellent clearing chest rub and massage oil for sports people.

Pure essential oils can be used as essences in the bath or in vaporisers. They can also be used to make up your own massage blends having first diluted them in HealthAid massage oil base or lotion base.
